Consultation is free. Our service fee is confirmed with you on WhatsApp before we file anything — no filing starts without your go-ahead.

Three facts before you start

For an individual, your CNIC is your NTN. FBR does not issue a separate number — e-enrolment on IRIS activates your 13-digit CNIC as your tax number.

FBR charges no government fee for NTN registration itself. What you pay a service for is preparing, checking and filing the application correctly.

An NTN alone does not make you a filer. You appear on the Active Taxpayer List (ATL) only after you file an income tax return — registration and return filing are two separate steps.

Who needs an NTN

If FBR, a bank or a registrar can ask for it, you need it

NTN registration is the entry point to Pakistan's tax system. Without it, you pay higher non-filer withholding tax rates on banking, property and vehicle transactions, and several everyday processes simply stop at the counter.

Salaried individuals

Government, private-sector and semi-government employees who need a tax profile for salary, withholding adjustments and return filing.

Freelancers & consultants

People earning from local or foreign clients, including platform work, who need an NTN to receive payments formally and file returns.

Shopkeepers & traders

Sole proprietors and small businesses that need an NTN for a business bank account, supplier dealings and registration with authorities.

Companies

SECP-registered private limited, single-member and LLP companies, which receive a distinct 7-digit NTN separate from any director's CNIC.

Partnerships & AOPs

Partnership firms and associations of persons that need their own NTN for the firm's income, bank account and filings.

Non-profit organisations

Trusts, welfare societies and charities that need NTN registration for their own compliance and banking.

An NTN is also commonly required for property purchase and registration transactions, government tenders and contracts, vehicle registration above certain thresholds, and foreign remittances above specified limits.

Categories & documents

What we file, and what you send us

Send your documents on WhatsApp. We check them before filing, so a mismatch is caught by us — not by FBR after submission. If anything is missing, we tell you exactly what is needed before we proceed.

CategoryWhat you getDocuments we ask for
Salaried individualYour CNIC activated as your NTN on IRISCNIC (front and back), mobile number biometrically verified in your own name, personal email, employer name and employer NTN, latest salary slip or employment letter, residential address
Sole proprietor / freelancerYour CNIC activated as your NTN, with business details recordedCNIC, verified mobile and email, business or trade name, business address and principal activity, recent utility bill of the business premises, bank account details, ownership or tenancy proof for the premises
Partnership / AOPA distinct 7-digit NTN for the firmCNICs of all partners, partnership deed, registration certificate from the Registrar of Firms, firm bank account details, business address with a recent utility bill, authorisation letter naming the principal officer
Company (Pvt Ltd / SMC / LLP)A distinct 7-digit NTN for the companySECP certificate of incorporation, memorandum and articles of association, CNICs of all directors, registered office address with a utility bill, company bank account details, board resolution naming the principal officer
Non-profit organisationA distinct 7-digit NTN for the organisationRegistration certificate (SECP, trust or societies registration), constitution or trust deed, CNICs of trustees, registered address with a utility bill, bank account details, board resolution naming the principal officer

One document rule that causes the most delays: a utility bill used as address proof should be recent — ideally under three months old. An older bill is one of the most common reasons an application stalls.

How it works

Four steps, all on WhatsApp, no office visit

Because the whole service is online, the steps are the same whether you are in Karachi or in a small town — only your documents differ by category.

1

Free consultation

Message us with your category — salaried, freelancer, business, company or partnership. We confirm what applies to you and the service fee upfront, before anything is filed.

2

Send your documents

Share clear scans or photos on WhatsApp. We check every document against what IRIS actually asks for, including CNIC and NADRA name matching.

3

We prepare & file on IRIS

We complete the IRIS e-enrolment and the registration form (Form 181) — addresses, source of income, employer or business details and bank account — and submit it for you.

4

NTN delivered

Once FBR processes the application, you receive your NTN and your IRIS login credentials, plus the e-registration certificate from your IRIS profile as proof of registration.

Timelines depend on FBR processing and on your documents being complete: straightforward individual registrations are typically completed within a few working days of receiving complete documents. Company and partnership cases take longer because more documents are verified. We confirm your expected timeline on WhatsApp at step one, not after you have paid.

Avoid rejection

Why NTN applications get stuck — and how we prevent it

Almost every failed or delayed application traces back to one of these issues. Our document check exists specifically to catch them before submission, because fixing them after FBR objects to an application costs far more time than fixing them first.

  • Utility bill used as address proof is older than three months
  • Mobile SIM is not biometrically verified, or is registered on someone else's CNIC
  • Address on the application does not match the CNIC or the utility bill
  • CNIC data does not match NADRA records — expired, unrenewed or blocked CNIC, or a name spelling difference
  • Supporting documents missing — no partnership deed for an AOP, no incorporation certificate for a company
  • Email or mobile OTP never confirmed before final submission
  • Repeated registration attempts on the same CNIC creating duplicate or conflicting records

If your CNIC is expired or your SIM is not in your own name, sort that first — IRIS verifies identity against NADRA in real time, and no filing can get past a failed identity check.

Know the difference

NTN, filer status and STRN are three different things

This is the single most common misunderstanding in Pakistan: thousands of people register for an NTN, stop there, and keep paying higher non-filer withholding rates because they never filed a return.

Already registered and unsure of your status? You can check ATL status by SMS — send ATL, a space, then your 13-digit CNIC to 9966 (for an entity, ATL followed by the 7-digit NTN). If you are registered but not on the ATL, the missing step is return filing, not a new NTN.

Coverage

All across Pakistan — your city does not change the process

Because NTN registration is filed on the IRIS portal, there is no regional office queue and no city-dependent step. We serve clients in every major city and town of Pakistan, including:

Questions

FBR NTN Registration — Asked & Answered

What is an NTN, exactly?

NTN stands for National Tax Number. It is your identity for income tax with the Federal Board of Revenue, created by e-enrolling on the IRIS portal. For most people it is not a card or a separate number — it is a registration status on FBR's system.

Is my CNIC my NTN?

Yes, for individuals. Your 13-digit CNIC becomes your NTN the moment e-enrolment completes. Companies, partnerships (AOPs) and foreign nationals receive a distinct 7-digit NTN instead.

Does getting an NTN make me a filer?

No. E-enrolment only creates your taxpayer profile. You become an active taxpayer and appear on the ATL only after you file an income tax return for the relevant tax year. Registration and return filing are two separate services.

Do I need to visit any office?

No. This service is fully online across Pakistan. Documents come to us on WhatsApp and the application is filed on IRIS. The only exception is account recovery: if you have lost access to both your registered mobile and email, FBR requires a visit to your Regional Tax Office for a manual IRIS reset.

What if I already have an NTN, or forgot my IRIS password?

If you are already registered, do not register again — duplicate attempts on the same CNIC create conflicting records. For a forgotten IRIS password, use the Forgot Password option on IRIS with your registered mobile or email. If neither is accessible, tell us on WhatsApp and we will advise the correct recovery route.

How much does NTN registration cost?

FBR charges no government fee for NTN registration itself. Our service fee for preparing, checking and filing your application is confirmed with you on WhatsApp before we start — nothing is filed, and nothing is charged, without your go-ahead.
